When lifting any item it is important to establish the centre of gravity of the object so the slings can be positioned accordingly!
The SHELDRAKE was built as the MANCHESTER VANGUARD in 1956. 1,662 Gross.
She was SHELDRAKE from 1963 to 1968.

Some of the cranes on Newcastle Quay were rated up to 30 Tons. They are not doing a tandem lift so we can assume that the Stator is under that weight.

True Paul, but stevedores always had to 'dip' objects like this to feed them into short hatches, and that took more skill than a normal land-side lift.
OK, I admit, it was done by guesswork and intuition

Three hatches. 32.5 ft; 40 ft and 26.75 ft by 22 ft and I bet they were putting it in the 26.75 ft one.
