Could that be Dobson's DELFSHAVEN on the inside under the crane?

Terry, Is it possible to make out the names of the others on the original photo?

The outer one at right (engines aft) is one of the series PLM 20 - PLM 23 by Raylton Dixon, Middlesbrough and all engine with Q4cyl by NEM Wallsend, all completed 1920-1921. 24 was engine by Richardson Westgarth. Look a bit like 23 to me.
The 'iron cross' is distinctive on the grey-hulled one.

just found the article in the shipbuilder. the ship in the foreground is the motor ship Sevilla (the article is about its machinery. the vessel nearest the quay is the Delfshaven whilst the other two are the P.I.M.23 and the Sandown castle.

Would this photograph have been taken from Parsons Marine?

Interesting thought. My first reaction was no, Parsons & NEM were on the same side of the river. But then I thought about the bend at Wallsend.
So I looked on Google Maps and I attach a section of the area around Parsons & NEM. Of course very little remains to position either company, but I have marked my best guess. So there is a bit of an angle on the NEM quayside, but is it enough to see the gap between the first group of ships and the second?
I think there was more angle on the shot and it would have been taken somewhere around VIEWPOINT or of course on the river itself.
But then again this could be a load of old tosh.
