An appropriate time to show the Neptune Machine Shop in 1915/16 in full swing as a shell casing manufacturing facility.
I received this photo from Kevin and he tells me that this building became the Swan Hunter Pipe Factory.
Just think of the time and effort, never mind the cost of materials, for each of these casings that that were filled and then just went BANG.

Really good one to post as you say, marking 100 years from the end of that 'Great War' ... but sadly only 21 short years to the start of the next one, how did we let that happen?
I guess most of these splendid ladies went back to the kitchen sink and producing babies after the war ...

One of my customers has a print of a Lancaster bomber on her wall. I thought it was because her father or husband flew them.
No she worked in a factory that made them !

Indeed, WW2 involved the ladies as well. A 90+ year old that I know was a navigator on planes being delivered to RAF bases around the country.
Sobering thought though thay any WW2 veterans still alive must be at least 89/90 years old even if involved right at the end of that war.

Oh no, she was teaching at Catterick (due to the enlarged army camp) then donned an Air Raid Warden tin hat!

I think she wore a tin hat while teaching, but only in the 1950's at Grangetown Boys School
