Close to the Keelmans Way walk at Gateshead, a glimpse of the river can be seen today through the gates of the Friars Goose Water Sports Club.

It would be about here that I chose to photograph KRONPRINS FREDERIK in the early 1960's, on one of her many departures for Scandinavia, from Newcastle Quayside
The railway running along the hillside behind the ship is the Riverside branch, opened by the North Eastern Railway in 1879. From Manors East junction the line had seven stations between there and Percy Main, which included St Peters, St Anthonys, Walker, Carville and Point Pleasant stations.
