Many folk are happy to walk across on the roadway, despite the wide footpaths. Maybe it's from before the motor car arrived at Newcastle.

I hadn't noticed the "trio of wee oar powered boats". Professional rowing races were a big thing on the river in the mid 1800s.

Ah, you remember Hercule Parrot, ze great tug detective :) Alas, he dropped off his perch some years back. A sad loss to the world of shipping research.
