This NEM forum site is now owned by
The Shipping and Shipbuilding Research Trust
constituted as a charity on a non-profit making basis.
The founding Trustees are Ian Buxton, Ron Mapplebeck, George Robinson and David Waller.

The principal objectives of the Trust are:

a. To encourage interest in, and facilitate research into the maritime heritage of the North East of England between and including Berwick-on-Tweed and Grimsby and such other regions of the United Kingdom as the Trustees may decide
b. Without prejudice to the generality of (a) above
(i) to develop, maintain, and make available to the public by electronic or other means the history of North East shipbuilding companies and vessels built by them, North East shipping companies and vessels owned by them, and any other aspects of maritime heritage within the defined area
(ii) to own and publish websites and associated internet facilities and databases to assist in the development, publication and accessibility of maritime records
(iii) to do such other things as the Trustees may decide within the principal purposes set out in (a) above

The motivation behind it is to ensure that this and other maritime websites, current or in the future, can be preserved beyond the ability of their current owners, for the benefit of long-term research via databases and the enjoyment of forum activity.

Also brought into SSRT ownership are the Gooleships and Teesbuiltships sites, together with NEM they are now under one hosting package which will pass into SSRT control.
We look forward to extending the activities of SSRT and will post here any news .... watch this space!

We are re-branded!
Thanks to Mick O'Rourke for designing and installing our new head border which is intended to form a common branding for the sites within the SSRT family.
The common feature will be the blue 'castle and river' device.
Watch for it popping up in new places.
Work on our Sunderland-built site is now advancing steadily towards a public launching (sadly the only one on the Wear nowadays) so again watch this space.
