To be strictly accurate Billy, Ships never called at Amble.

Amble is the name of the 'Town' but the Harbour is called Warkworth as it was originaly the 'Port' for the Castle.

The Harbour is still operated by 'Warkworth Harbour Commissioners' and their office is next to the small Carpark at the Harbour Mouth.
In the 1920's Warkworth Harbour was handling up to 800 small ships per annum and shipping out 750,000 tons of coal at its peak.

The Staiths were closed in 1969 and demolished in 1971. However the Jetties were rebuilt in 2000 and I can recall seeing a Coaster there, not that many years ago, so perhaps the odd ship may return!
