NEMUNA (9179361), Cyprus, 2863gt, completed Hoogezand/Foxhol 10-1998

A rare occurrence for me - actually catching a ship sailing from Seaham!
Just there by happenstance anyway (spur of the moment trip to Dalton Park shopping centre)!

Thursday late night shopping - or because its quiet through the week and you can have a mooch around at a slower pace than at a weekend.
Or was it Mrs M said she wanted to go ?

Graham,

Yes, a Thursday, but lunchtime! Anne (Mrs M) I think wanted something for a wedding we were going to in June.
That wedding was in Perth .... and followed by three days in Aberdeen .... Anne is quite content to sit alongside me in the car while I watch the ships passing. After all she has over 40 years' experience now!

She is fully aware that whenever we visit our son in Peterborough that, unless we're in a rush, the car will automatically divert towards Howdendyke, Goole and the Trent; and the return trip will be via Wisbech, Sutton Bridge, Grimsby, then reverse route Trent, Goole, Howdendyke. She rather likes seeing several of the houses in the small villages en route. Her friends don't always understand why she puts up with it!! They don't understand my attraction to "rusty old tankers" as ships are usually described by her to them.

Her training started in the early 70s with visits to Hull, River Clyde, etc., .... and since then just about every family holiday she has arranged has included port visits in the itinery! Even the cruise she booked a few years back and our once in a lifetime visit to New Zealand last year (stopovers in Singapore in both directions). She loves Holland although it's a few years now since we were last there.

Oh, yes, I know I'm a lucky chap! And, yes, she's getting more into the habit these days of going off on short trips with her own friends, leaving me at home! I still also get my own trips away, such as to Merseyside earlier this year for the three Queens.

On our own doorstep she's usually with me whenever we manage to visit the South Gare.

As long as we remain fit enough to drive, we can continue to share my ship observing and photography. Long may it continue!
