ACCUM

Postby teesships » Sat Sep 08, 2012 8:48 pm

I'm returning now to the WSS Teesside Branch Albert Weller Negative Collection for some new scans

ACCUM (5001700), North Thames Gas Board, 1771gt,
completed Grangemouth DY 6-1950
67 KEYNES - 75 TITIKA
BU Piraeus 10.2.84 [Vionav Ltd]

At Hartlepool circa 1959/60:

This is an enlargement from the following more general view:

Interesting to go back over 50 years and see the vista as it then was from the Deep Water Berth, coal staithes (demolished 1975) to the right, fish quays and Hartlepool Headland area straight ahead.

Was this not the Victoria Dock?

Probably! The present day Victoria Quay is to the left of the photo.

Was the Deepwater Berth (as used by the ore boats) on this side of the staithes, or on the other side nearer to the enclosed dock entrance, I seem to recall it on that side.

To be pedantic I think that in the distance is the fish quay, therefore this is Victoria Dock and behind the staiths to the right would be the Deep Water Berth. :D

Yes, George and Dave, you are both right! Sorry for the confusion.

I have a copy of the Official Guide and Handbook - The Middlesbrough and Hartlepools Docks - British Transport Commission, published circa 1960. From the content, the following map of Hartlepool, and photo of Victoria Dock may, therefore, be of further interest.
