Ugland Crane Barge

I have no details for these undated views by Albert Weller. It looks as though it was assisting the delivery and erection of new cranes at Furness shipyard which, if I recall correctly, was in the late 1960s.

She looks very much like UGLEN, seen here 'at home' in Grimstad, Norway on 10/8/1981.

Owned by Ugland Construction Co A/S at that time, she was built in 1978 by A/S Nymo M/V, Grimstad, an Ugland owned yard I believe, yard number 2.
But was there a sister? Perhaps yard no. 1?

Mike,

That looks like it. From what can be made out from Albert's slide, UGLEN seems to fit.

Built 1978, so dismantling the cranes after the shipyard closed? (circa 1980?? Last ship NEW ZEALAND STAR completed January 1979)

Would this be the occasion when all the large cranes from Furness Basin
and Slips were all loaded on a barge after the yard closed.

Cannot remember the details as to who had bought them but the barge
sailed from here with all the cranes on.

Again cannot remember where it happened but all the cranes fell off
the barge in heavy weather and were lost! !!!
