You have to wonder if her German Owners had a relative who served in a 'Seeteufel' aka Sea Devil miniature Submarines which were unusual to say the least having Caterpillar Tracks a design which the Soviet Navy copied during the Cold War and one of the reasons why the R.N. went around the G.B. Coast in the 1950's and flattened all the sunken Wrecks in order to deny the Soviet Version a place to hide in their shadow (from ASDIC pinging) in order to land Frogmen to commit acts of intelligence gathering or sabotage should the signal be given.
I am sure that those of us who are old enough to remember that not that long ago there was a quite a Hue and Cry when a massive search was on for the Soviet version which had been located on the Coast in Swedish territorial waters and if I remember correctly was thought to be in trouble for a while but appeared to have managed to evade those wanting it to surface.

I don't know if the R.N. ever tried the 'Seetuefel" principle but instead preferred the X Craft. Interesting that the prototype Seetuefel was developed at the Borgward factory at Bremen.
