SCOTTISH KING

Postby TEESMAN » Sun Jul 22, 2012 10:23 am

It was a suprise to see the remains of the SCOTTISH KING being broken up at Haverton Hill 22.07.12. The ship had spent some years in Hartlepool Marina.

SCOTTISH KING Built 1959 J.Lewis & Sons Aberdeen Yard No 286 as the Scottish King, renamed Grampian King in 1978 before reverting back to Scottish King, converted from Trawler to Stanby Safety Vessel in 1980.

A pity indeed to see her broken up after so many years, and at one time looking well cared for as your photos show.
Can't be many of these Aberdeen-built sidewinders left afloat now.

Mick,

That is a blow, and a great disappointment!

We still don't know where the SANDTEX (q.v.) went, but we must suspect she has met a similar fate elsewhere on the river!

Hi I lived on the Scottish King for many years and was onboard her when she came from the Humber yard to Hartlepool marina I also stayed with the vessel for many years in the marina with the help of a local chap Allen who helped with the fit out , after some years I was trying to sell her on behalf of the owners at that time , after that ,leaving her to return to New Zealand I am sadden to see your Photo of the broken remains . I can honestly say that she was a great vessel and a part of me has gone with that Trawler .
regards Pete

Hi

I would just like to clear a few things up for anyone viewing this article

Yes this is the Scottish king (Grampian king) and yes this was my dad’s ship (Son talking here). This ship was a large part of us and it did take alot of time to improve it ... but too much time, with the amount of work it needed doing to it we didn't have the time with dad being away all the time. This also nearly led to a catastrophe as the boat nearly sunk at one point from a small hole in the bottom of the hull. As for SANDTEX they did get there ship working for a while but once it was it crashed into the dock and give it a bit of damage as for now they are unknown where they are at.

And yes this ship was well looked after ... the paint might not tell you but it did look better on the inside that out and was really cared for. And sorry "Pete" I can't remember you living on the boat it might of been a while ago but i was at that ship every other week haha. But sorry if i can't recall anyway the ship was sold and has been scraped and has taken a piece of us with it.

So if anyone would like anymore information please contact me through this and i will reply at my earliest convenience!
