VIGSNES

VIGSNES (5380235), A/S Kristian Jebsens Rederi, Norway, 1931gt,
completed J.Crown & Sons, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, 12-1947
1947 VIGSNES - 1967 PAX - 1969 CARPO
BU Passage West 24.2.72 [Haulbowline Industries Ltd]
As CARPO see also: viewtopic.php?f=178&t=5382

It took a bit of guesswork and a conviction that this was a Jebsen ship starting with the letter V to work this one out. Potential sisterships were eventually found in Talbot-Booth, but he did not actually list the VIGSNES. Eventually confirmed by a bit of pot luck web searching those sisters and finally by: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/pho ... id=1306694 And now, of course, I find she is already showing on NEM as the CARPO! It was initially a bit of a surprise to realise she was Sunderland-built!

First, the enlarged view from one of Albert Weller's negatives of her heading up the River Tees past Eston Jetty:

The full negative also showed part of the EVITA:

and also on another negative between the RIPON and EVITA:

Together with ANDWI and INGWI all from Crown in 1947, believe all sisters for Norwegian owners. Typical British collier design.

This pic complements the "Evita" thread showing her at Eston 6 lay by waiting for
the "Ripon" in Eston 5 to discharge the bulk of her cargo before moving
along the quay to No. 4 berth to finish off.
