For those who have lost sleep wondering how the Dutch Barge Crews clean up the residue of a Cargo like wheat and pile it up for the crane grab to remove from the Hold without using a shovel (I previously mentioned )worry no more, they use a Petrol Engined Grass Blower, their hands never touch the Cargo. They might as well, if they don't make sure the hold is well ventilated. ;) ;)

They certainly do have the Hatches open however there has been a number of cases in Holland with Barges where the Hatches never seemed to be opened which led to the Police having a closer look only to find that they were cultivating another form of grass/drugs within the Hold. The Vent Blower/Pipework hidden between the Hatch Covers and a false roof built into the Hold to get rid of the fumes.

The new locks at Ijmuiden will have a berth to allow Dutch barges to unload their cars onto and tootle up to the shops or home
