I never cease to be amazed by the size of vessels that could get up the harbour and through the swing bridge!

Never mind Ron it was just a thought but thank you for the photo anyway, it never ceases to amaze me the size of the Commercial Vessels so close to the private vessels in the Yacht marina at Hartlepool although I suppose they did moor the Reserve Fleet in the same Docks and of course the Egton or did she/they go in the back way which no longer exists. Further research on the motoryacht in the first picture is proving interesting, myself along with another researcher who has been contacted feel that just looking at the Hull that she was possibly built as an MGB by J. Samuel White and possibly one of the ten built and manned by Polish Crews. The first five of the batch were built by British Power Boats and she is not one of those as the BPB Hull shape is very different. Of the remainder built by S.W. some of them have been accounted for ( non saw Wartime action as they were still 'Working Up') including a famous vessel named "Taifun" which starred in the film "The Ship that died of Shame"(along with two other MGB/MTB's) after the Film was made she was sold to a Mr Hugh Edwards (brother of Jimmy Edwards) for "Midnight Trading" in the Med, in other words Smuggling. On first thoughts you might think Fags and Booze to Spain and that would be correct but there was another highly sought after commodity which seems ridiculous to risk a Prison sentence for Smugglers in Spain In those years, care to guess? Clue after1952.

Ron

Fascinating what you seem to be unearthing about this vessel. Thought it might help you further if I showed the remainder of your little ship which had been partially cropped from my initial post. Still not fully complete - but most of it is there, and hope it helps.

Many Thanks Ron that extension it is a great help, I wonder if she was a resident or a visitor, she has a name board on the side of the Wheelhouse but I can't make it out. The answer to my question has been overwhelming :| but as yet nobody has got the correct answer so the crate of Mackeson will stay in the garage where I found it during a lockdown clearout :D
The answer by the way is TEABAGS due to the number of visitors from GB taking their first trip to the Costa's and the Hotels not being able to get enough of them. Must have been a Tea(bag) Tax in operation . In those days Brits rarely bought property on the Costa's not unless you wanted to live next to a former SS officer 8-) with his Hugo Boss designed uniform in his Wardrobe, during the War the Costa's were the playground of the SS when on leave under the protection of Franco. And I thought it was condoms
I was on AUTHENTICITY trading in the Irish Sea in 1980 and we sailed into Cork, berthing in the city centre, and the two AB'S had stocked up on condoms to sell in the first bar they came to. It was opposite the ship, literally.
Mackeson is now a 'ghost' brand, sold without adertising.
Cans or bottles?
Regards
Graham

Cans, Cans, how very dare you Graham a bottle opener was part of the key ring equipment unless you had strong teeth :o , I was also surprised it was teabags but that was straight from the Smugglers words, even today the Spanish think we are a bit odd when asked for kettles (to make tea of course) when a Microwave is available, they just don't understand the complexity of making a decent cup of tea ;). After detailed research it looks like the unknown vessel in the photograph is probably a Thornycroft built ex Wartime RAF Air Sea Rescue Launch, rather than a very similar looking MTB/ MGB , Ron@?
