Boyhood memories of the wonderful ESK of 1936 from Henry Robb, Leith, perpetually digging away in Whitby harbour.
I am sure someone will produce photos of her in action.
Unfortunately I got to her with a camera only at the end of her days, at Glasson Dock in September 2003, a sad sight after being based there from around 1985.

..... it was one of the famed YSE excursions Paul, faultless organisation, reaching the parts that other spotters miss, fuelled entirely by sandwiches. Magic!

Always worth a call at Glasson Dock, handy for the Gents as well!

Very frustrating when there is something interesting on the Outside Berth.

The dredger ESK returns to port to resume dredging another load in the harbour. She was built in 1936 at Leith by Henry Robb Ltd.

I think I took this at Glasson Dock on my only visit there some years back.

Not a very good scan result from a distant sighting by Albert Weller!

But, is this the ESK or not? The superstructure stanchions make me think it is, but she was otherwise extensively rebuilt in the 20 years or so between this view of her leaving the Tees and my photo of her in Whitby in 1982.
