Shipping around Hull

Lokoja Palm/82

Postby Palmship » Thu May 30, 2013 6:19 pm

Hi,
Not taken many photo's in Hull, despite it being my home town, but here's one that might interest.

This was the last ship built for Palm Line and mainly spent her life for the company on charter, seen here prior to her maiden voyage when she actually left Hull as the Wameru on charter to the Woermann Linie.

Graham

I remember she went straight into lay-up on 11 Quay as shown here, I logged her on 23/12/1982 so she must have arrived around then.
Sister LAGOS PALM was at Hull in August 1982, can't recall exactly but also a lay-up?

Hello George,

as far as I can recall the Lagos Palm came into Hull to finish off fitting out, carpets and various odds and ends, she did have a few days laying over but was mainly preparing for a bit of a ceremony prior to the maiden voyage from Tilbury. The Lokoja Palm, however, as you rightly point out did come in to lay up. I don't have exact dates, I do, vaguely, remember a fantastic New Years party! My Dad was 1st mate whist she was in Hull but didn't sail on her.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the additional info, I'm slipping I should have put it in myself. She certainly had a few names but I think the record should go to the Bamenda Palm/79 she had 11 different names although she did carry the same names a couple of timestaking the total up to 13. Lucky for some!!
