Work has commenced to dredge out the silted up Central Dry dock at the mouth of the River Hull. Humber Workboats have placed a small cutter suction dredger in the dock, the gates that were left slightly ajar allowing the tides to silt the basin up have been sealed with two piles. River water is being pumped into the dock to allow the dredged silt to be flushed into the river.

What's the story Patrick? Is it to be preserved?

There has been mentions of a plan to build a sister attraction to the The Deep called The River but these were proposed back in 2009. The Humber Workboats web site says they have won the contract to dredge the dock from Wykeland Properties.

Sounds like a silt removal operation in order to get down to more solid material as a base for building some yuppie flats or similar?

Late reply on this one. Apparently the dock gates are listed and so causing a potential problem. There has been talk of removing them for repair but to me they are too far gone and would need replacing. Also possible is a coffer dam built out board of them to protect them (like Belfast?).

There has been no activity on site for a few months now since HWB completed the dredge.
