..... and the excellent WSS history CAREBEKA 1939-1983 tells us there's a lot more to the history of this ship. At the end of September 1940 while awaiting repairs at Capelle a/d Ijssel she was requisitioned by Germany and allocated to the Kriegsmarine at Kiel. She became an accommodation vessel with the name of EISVOGEL. From August 1942 she was rebuilt as a refrigerated cargo ship and used to supply food to German troops in Norway; during this time she also serviced the TIRPITZ. In May 1945 the European war ended and she was found sunk at Lubeck, salvaged by a Swedish company and towed to Holland, re-entering service as the PRINS BERNHARD in January 1946. .....
...... following sale in August 1967 to become the OVEDJE she was sent to Delfzijl for intended conversion, although the work was never carried out; she was laid up at Krimpen a/d Ijssel as the OVEDJE I. She was both re-engined and lengthened in being converted to an inland waterways sand barge.
