ROTRA VENTE

An explanation for her delayed arrival at Hull this week.

A large scale evacuation took place in the port of Esbjerg in the night of Apr 10, when the crew of semi-sub HL vessel Rotra Vente (6564 gt, built 2016) following an engine failure at 2150 hrs, as the vessel was heading out of the harbour, bound to Kingston upon Hull. In the strong western wind with a strong inward tide the vessel experienced a blackout and began to drift back to port. The vessel dropped anchor, but the strong wind sent it on a collision course towards the two Maersk owned drilling rigs drill platform Maersk Resolve (15589 gt, built 2009) and drill platform Maersk Resolute (15589 gt, built 2008) and both had to be evacuated. Rotra Vente came in contact with one of the rigs with low speed and got wedged in the rig's helipad. With the rising tide it was important to get the vessel quickly free again, so two tugs and a pilot boat were sent to get it under control. There was no major damage, but a mast and antennas that were entangled in the platform broke off. The draught of the vessel was increased by taking on ballast water in the stern, so the tugs managed to pull the vessel to a berth at the Aries Quay where it is detained today, for further inspection of the damage.

Not too sure about her semi-submersible qualities?

Simon

First visit to Hull since her garage was removed - pity it was before sunrise.

'Before sunrise', when's that? :D
You are truly dedicated ... or prone to falling out of bed.
