Livingstone & Cooper

Postby northeast » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:38 pm

This aerial view from around 1920 shows the Livingstone & Cooper shipyard, situated on the upstream side of Hessle Haven in an area which is now a public park.
At the fitting-out jetty is one of their larger ships, possibly one of a trio built for French owners, SAINT BASILE, SAINT DIDIER and SAINT ROMINIQUE in 1920/1921.
The yard operated here approx 1914-1925, in succession to Thomas Dobson's yard on this site approx 1903-1908.

Lots to look at in that picture George. It would appear the 'Fitting-Out Quay' was a Barge moored to the River Bank. I wonder how they managed for Cranage? A quick check in Miramar reveals that most of their output appears to have been during the 'Great War' and they seem to be getting on their feet when the depression kicked in.
