The Russian-flagged Sietas-built coaster POLARIS on Jubilee Quay at Goole this morning. She arrived in the early hours of Saturday morning from Ghent.

I see that POLARIS is down to sail from Goole on this evening's tide for Aktau. I must confess I had never heard of Aktau which is in Kazakhstan on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. Her voyage will presumably take her through the Bosphorus then via the River Don and Volga-Don Canal in to the Caspian Sea.

Any details of her cargo would be appreciated.

Cheers

We did once have a service from Hull to the Caspian, including some Iranian ports there and I am sure they went via St. Petersburg, Moscow and thence down to Volga and Caspian.
Will be interesting to see which way this one heads!
Looking at the Volga's delta on Google Earth it's hard to see any channel out into the Caspian as all the shores show a receding water level which must have affected navigation.
Aktau is at 43.36N 51.13E with a nice train ferry in port!

POLARIS sailing from Ocean Lock Goole this evening, her cargo is two very long porta cabin units nearly the full length
of her hold.

Thanks Gents.

Looking at her course St. Petersburg looks to be the likely option. In fact her AIS destination confirms it.

POLARIS was headed down the Neva River southeast of St. Petersburg in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Snag is, we probably don't have AIS coverage of the Area to track her all the way through.

Cannot find her at the moment.

Yes, of the free websites Marinetraffic seems to have the latest position. They look to have some Volga coverage so she might pop up there sometime in the next few days.

POLARIS passed Yaroslav on the Volga River on Tuesday 22nd. Looks to be just over half way to her destination.
