DANIO aground - news item

Postby teesships » Sat Mar 16, 2013 12:18 pm

News item: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-21813072

Seems a good enough category under which to mention this! But if, geographically, others think it fits elsewhere, then please move it!

1700 hrs.

Seahouses Lifeboat still standing by and the tug HEMIKSEM has come down from the Forth.

Possible attempt to get her off about now............

Watching on AIS, the tug didn't get very close. Checking DANIO's track she hit the rocks at about 10 knots, bet that woke up the sleeping watchman ;)

No, the Tug appeared to be standing a long way off.

According to Ian Clayton, Seahouses RNLI she is in a very difficult location for Tugs to get in.

She does not appear to be in any serious danger so surprised the Lifeboat has stood by her for so long.

Actually its very interesting looking at her Track, Patrick.

It looks like she hit first further inland then pulled back, turned to Port and tried to get throught the gap between the Islands. Found there was not enough water and tried to do a 99 point turn to get out but did not make it!

Cannot spell!!

Still hard aground. As far as I can see no attempt was made to pull her off today.

The Tug HEMIKSEM that came down from the Forth has just arrived on the Tyne and tied up at Northumbria Quay (ex Tyne Commission Quay.) presumably to load extra gear for the refloating.

Tides are dropping and she went aground on the highest one so could be a long job if they don't get her off soon.
