A regular visitor to UK ports in the 1960's, often attracting press interest. The following appeared in the Liverpool Echo in April 1963, on one of her visits there:-
"Built in 1961, the ship is capable of carrying 154 cadets, 6 cadets and 52 permanent crew. She is also capable of carrying 2,100 tons of cargo. Part of the ship's training facilities include a mock bridge and engine room. In addition to training navigators and engineers, she is equipped for training electricians and radio operators".
She was registered in Leningrad with students cadets coming from the Leningrad Higher Marine School.
