Messina was one of 4 modified Clovelly class tenders built by Dunston - they had extra accommodation built in for trainees and were run by the Royal Navy. Messina was used by the Royal Marines and was sold to a J Manders of Bristol in 1996, he retained the gey paint scheme.

Its surprising just how long some of these "General Purpose Tenders" lasted and led very useful lives Post Navy.
The "Loyal's," "Cartmels" and "Aberdoveys" all date from the mid 60's to the early 80's.
