If I remember we had a ship visit on her and I could not make it for some reason, and I have regretted it ever since!
She sneeked out of the River in the dead of night with a load of scrap.

Don't care what people say about this class they were very graceful boats. Once watched SIR JOHN SNELL come down river from 19/20 staithes and turn by the east pier to head out of Blyth and on another ocaission watch the 'Willy Walker' high out of the water doing up river to load. Must have been soon after a drydocking because she didn't have a dirty bottom.

Sir John Snell took the last shipment of 2947 tons of coal from Methil Docks in Fifeshire on 18 May 1977.
