RIO BESAYA

RIO BESAYA

Postby Dennis Maccoy » Thu May 08, 2014 7:53 pm

On 13 January 1976 the small Spanish freighter Rio Besaya, built by Astano at El Ferrol in 1967, was abandoned off West Africa following a fire. Almost a year later, on 5 January 1977, she arrived at Brigham & Cowan for repair where she is seen on 30 January. However, Spanish law forbade the repair of ships of this size abroad and she left the Tyne for Las Palmas on 28 April 1977. I’m not aware of her subsequent fate.

Doesn't look as though she was repaired, nor traded again.
Miramar record: fire 13.02N/17.46W 13.1.76, laid up & scuttled off Las Palmas 26.5.89

Thanks Ron - it seems to have taken someone a long time to make a decision.
