Viktor Mironov arriving for Cammell Laird, Hebburn N03 dry-dock 11.08.2000. She was only in for 4 days but what problems she caused, well some of the crew did. It turned out that half the crew were criminals who had been given the choice of sand, sea and sun aboard Viktor or prison and had chosen the the first option. There was that much stuff going missing in the yard that after 2 days they decided to put a security fence round it with a security guard on duty, the guard lost his walkie-talkie in the first half hour. I went in again on the 13th and hung my jacket on the fence and took some photos and when i turned to get my jacket it had gone. 8 of the crew were stopped at the main gate carrying 4 big rolls of carpet which had been taken from a carpet shop in Jarrow.

Hi Tyneboy, I remember this one she came in with a stern tube problem!!! and when she was high and dry in #3 dock in the old Hawthorn Leslie yard which was owned by Tyne Tees dockyard, and our guys went to get the wear down gauge the Captain would not allow anybody on board. I do believe they had a problem with a leaking sea water pipe which could only be repaired while in drydock. They did not have any services supplied by the yard so it could not have been very pleasant for the crew to be living onboard, and you are right about the thieving the crew cleaned out all the toilet paper and soap from the yards toilets and removed anything that was'nt nailed down, as soon as they fixed the problems they had they disappeared with only dock rent owing. Micky.
