An unusual angle for a view of Walker on the other side. Trying to remember the tanker company with that distinctive funnel mark.

Very interesting photo. No ships on the berth at Walker and nothing alongside. I can't believe that these 5 ships are in for repair at Harrisons, so are they laid up? The Walker yard was empty from 1929 to 1935 apart from the MONARCH OF BERMUDA in 1931.

Its a crossed Hammer and Dagger in Red on a white band.

C'est bien mes amis. So when did Harrisons have three sisters (or close) from a French company alongside .... an unusual occurrence?
They look lile quite early tankers maybe from pre-1914.

They are all within sight of their birthplace at Armstrong Whitworth, Low Walker in 1914-1915 as yn's 865 MASSIS, 866 ARAGAZ and 869 SUNIK.
Its seems they were the entire pre-war fleet of the company, photo of ARAGAZ is in Jordan's 1939 fleets book at p.38 and looks a good match to me.
The Whizard of Whick has not yet caught up with them in the monumental Tyne-built site.

A quick Miramar check has ARAGAZ sold 1945, MASSIS sold 1941 and sunk by RAF in 1943, SUNIK sunk by collision 27/07/1939 so this has to be between them being bought in 1924/1925 from UK owners (no name changes) and July 1939 .... perhaps laid up during the depression, hence the lack of shipbuilding activity across the river?

And the other two are?

In 1914/15 three tankers were built on the Tyne by Armstrong, Whitworth and Co. Ltd. for single ship companies and registered in London. They were the ARAGAZ (Yard No. 865), MASSIS (Yard No. 866) and SUNIK (Yard No. 869). In 1925 the three ships were transferred to Soc. Anon. les Petroles d' Oustremer under the French flag . The ARAGAZ arrived in the Tyne 25.8.1930 to lay up and was joined on 5.10.1931(nb) by the MASSIS. The SUNIK was laid up at Havre where she arrived 15.5.1931.
