A view from Bill Quay looking East. The tug is the Livingstone registered at Blyth. The date is 1909.

Lovely old view Kevin, and 2 warships to identify, strange flag on the one on the buoys at left.

Excellent photo Sir. The LIVINGSTON in the foreground has to be:

http://www.tynetugs.co.uk/livingstone1876.html

Even the scroll work matches. So that dates the photo as prior to 10/1913

Now the warships??

According to Kevin, the postcard is stamped 29th December 1909.

Kevin, I would complain to Royal Mail, that's definitely too long even for 2nd class :D

Re the warships, quite a few from Armstrong Whitworth assuming these are early 1900's builds.
Wondering if ensign on left might be Ottoman Turkish which would lead to HAMIDIYE of 1904.

Certainly could be HAMIDIEH, George.

The Ensign/Jack is a Red Flag with the Crescent and a Star in White. Unfortunately its folded but could well be.
The HAMIDIEH was originally called ABDUL HAMID but this was changed during build.
She was laid down in 1902 and completed in 1904 at Elswick. Machinery by Hawthorn Lislie.
The picture I have of her shows a stern Anchor but I suspect this was slung out as required and the hull shows a flat where it would fit. If we could see the stern she had a "Canoe" stern very much like the current "X" Bows.

I have HAMIDIEH as an Elswick build and engined by Hawthorn Leslie, rather than completed by them. But always interested to know if I have got it wrong (again).
