AV Dawson set for growth
Middlesbrough-based logistics company AV Dawson is set to improve and re-engineer its wharf area in order to accommodate bigger and heavier ships.
The "extensive investment" in its deep water berths and quay follows a multimillion-pound finance agreement with Santander and support from the government's Regional Growth Fund.
AV Dawson, currently in its third generation of family ownership, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The business provides integrated storage, distribution and logistics from its 90 acre site on the banks of the River Tees.
The company is the largest independent port operation on the River Tees and employs 160 staff across four sites and has an annual turnover of £18m. It is committed to the integration of road, rail and sea transportation and related value added services.
John Young, financial director of AV Dawson, said: "Santander have really taken the time to understand our business and deliver an innovative funding solution which will help us achieve our goals of business growth, brand development and job creation.
"The whole team at Santander show real enthusiasm for what we want to achieve and always communicate clearly with us – it is a refreshing way to work with a bank."
Graham Moore, relationship director for Santander Corporate & Commercial, added: "AV Dawson is an excellent example of a strong, well managed local business with the potential to significantly grow.
"They offer a world class service, and have a real brand heritage across the region. We are delighted that they have chosen to continue working with us as their banking partner and I am looking forward to building our relationship in the months and years to come."
