Discharging at Alcan last Saturday from Augnish.
Crazy that it is railroaded back up through Scotland to Fort William

It does seem crazy, but the Alumina has to be transhipped to rail at some point to then be transported to Fort William.

So I guess it is then just balancing the extra miles of rail freight (tons /mile) versus the extra miles of the cargo ship (tons/mile). If the cargo has to travel a long way by ship to get closer to Fort William then it could cost more than the rail journey, I suppose.
