Eltringham apprentice

Eltringham apprentice

Postby Whickham » Sat Nov 10, 2012 5:36 pm

I have been sent a copy of the signed Indenture papers for an apprentice at JT Eltringham's yard at South Shields dated 1st April 1898. It makes interesting reading especially relating to the banned activities, such as gambling, haunting of taverns and marriage. Let this be a salutary lesson to many on this site.

Same rules apply in this house, but the Indenture period is somewhat longer. Same pocket money applies though.

Just wait till Mrs. W finds out about your grievances, you'd better make sure you get to the phone first.

Just joined the Forum. Is there any possibility of getting hold of a copy of the indenture. I would like to give it to my son Joseph who could learn from his ancestor, Joseph Toward Eltringham

Hello John

At the moment I can't find the details of the person who sent me this document. I will have stored it somewhere safe! I will let you know when I find them.

Ahhh found it! I was sent the document by a lady called Wendy whose Grandfather was the Henry Philip Smith referred to in the Indenture document.

I have her email address and can make contact if required.
