Quite right Dave, I remember that inflation spike 1972 onwards, I had bought a new Triumph Toledo NAT 511M reg Aug 1973 for around £1100, 3 years later the same car was double that, the salesman said to me 'yes but you will get your money back in trade in' as though he was doing me a favour, for a new car he wanted £1100 plus the old one!
Also note the almost non-existent inflation in 1950's, there's a tenant on Hull Docks sitting on 100-year lease signed around 1954 with no rent reviews .... clearly no-one ever thought the value of money would go down and the demand for land go up!
