Sir John Ellerman died aged 71 16 july 1933, supposedly as Britain's wealthiest individual, not bad for a youngster who apparently never had an interest in ships or shipping.
This City of Liverpool was amongst approx 25 post ww2 new build City class cargo liners Ellerman and Hall lines constructed, by the mid 50's they ran the largest newest fleet anywhere.
